Sam,

Many thanks for the input on MTIC. While they have a couple of technical advantages over EMC in some areas I really did not buy them based on a competitive posture with that venerable company. Rather, I like their focus (and partnerships) in the data base sector. Obviously EMC is there (and everywhere) when it comes to corporate data storage but MTIC has developed some interesting partnerships, notable with SyBase. My only real reservation about MTIC is their cash situation. I would feel a lot better about them if the had 4-5 times what do have. But in the end I felt that their revenue expectations are real and that cash flow should be reasonably positive going forward. Its not EMC but then it isn't priced like EMC. In some respects, ditto for Ciprico with the focus shifting to multimedia content. But most important, you gotta love the momentum and potential in data networks in general.

One caution re corporate spending however. Things could get dicey if Brazil, Japan, Russia, Y2K, the Feds, inflation-disinflation, bubonic plague, and presidential misbehavior, etc ad nauseum... Never mind. I know you know what I mean.

Best,
Stitch
