A@P, Don't do it! We need your sTURDying words of wisdom here next week. Besides, as absurd as this whole "Turdgate" thing is, we must remember that Mr. Pink has voluntarily boycotted SI - something I wish he hadn't done, because He too is a wise guy.

I say stay. SI may get a little flaky with their inconsistent treatment of individuals, but SI is the best regardless.
my 2 cents,

Well, every dictionary I looked in lists it as either vulgar or obscene. The fact that it may have migrated into the common everyday public speech of some of us has more to do with the company we have kept than it being an untainted word to the vast majority.

But the SI Admin is incorrect in assuming that vulgar posting is out of the norm at SI. Just do a search for it and its other four letter synonym. It would be a full-time job for him to police that. If there are going to be forbidden words (ala George Carlin's 7) then they can easily be filtered via the spell checker upon posting. Ladies and gentlemen we have the technology!

I am all for solidarity with the great Mr. Pink, but for something so petty? I recommend that those who want the word to vote for it by writing to the SI Admin. Likewise the naysayers. That way he will have a better idea of the kind of company we have kept in our lives and therefore know what is considered the norm amongst the SI population. He has already revealed himself as an easily swayed moral relativist in his message to Mr. Pink. Notice that he says he is not personally offended by the word but that someone else was. I suggest that those for whom this is a burning issue do the above. I will not join the exodus to Yahoo because it will have no pragmatic effect. I think most of us here are more results oriented. In any case, I will eagerly await your return.

Besides, the literate Mr. Pink has no need to stoop to a 800 year old Anglo-Saxonism. Why can't he use caca or poopoo like the rest of us.   :-)

Best,
Jimmy Liberato
