A collegue of mine's brother-in-law uses the following method
(he tells me): Say he's doing a plumbing project. He goes
to a hardware store, or better yet a plumbing supply, and
buys FIVE of every conceivable fitting, pipe, nipple, tee,
connector, whatever, that could possibly apply. Credit card,
of course. Lays 'em all out; uses what he needs; then
returns the rest.

Two trips max. I wouldn't have the guts, myself <gg>.
