Shawn,
RE:" AMD began to show that they
could produce chips in large quantitie"...

I agree with you that AMD had started to gain respect. First with the increases in chips shipped from 2.7m to 3.8m in the third quarter and the upside earnings surprise in the 3rd quarter.
But AMD management is DUMB. They lead everyone to believe they would ship 5.5 million chips in the 4th but failed to tell them that earnings wouldn't increase proportionally because of the mask problem (aka low ASPs). So they let all the Analysts look like idiots while letting them raise their earnings estimates proportionally with the increased chip volume.
So now the Analysts, who would like to keep their cushy, 6 figure, overpaid jobs, feel like chumps. Meanwhile they cause the stock to be sold off and once angain don't trust Jerry and the boys.
This is so stupid. All Jerry and the boys had to do was say that ASPs were going to be lower and don't expect a big rise in expected earnings because of the increase in chips sales.
I expect a bounce here but AMDs stock price to taper off, retesting recent lows once again going into February.
Regards, Jim
