Edwarda, Ghirardelli is cute if you are a tourist but as far as being the best chocolate - no way. It is fun to go there and have a milkshake or something. The real SF chocolate company now is Eric Schmidt... he makes all this artistic stuff which is also good but mostly its for looking at. I havent had Godiva lately but it used to be better than both of these. I kind of thought Godiva might not be as good as it used to be because it used to be soooo expensive and now its only about 30% more than everybody else. No rationale in that I know... just a gut feeling.

Ghirardelli is surprisingly lousy chocolate considering its price. For my tastes - Lindt is the absolute gold standard. Guylian (those Belgian chocolates that look like bathroom fixtures!) is a close second.
