Addi: If he did make those statements, they were a more powerful endorsement of COMPAQ than any institutional analyst or TA specialist or pundit can offer. I have a very high regard for the CEO of Lucent. Since the spin-off from ATT, Lucent have probably done more realistic due dilligence (given its intense interest in strategy and in acquisitions and partnerships) than most. Their results speak for themselves.

Hi Addi: I posted a "DELL vs CPQ" article back in December (which I can't seem to locate) that basically talked about how CPQ has formed an alliance with LU and DELL has formed an alliance with CSCO to "square off" against one another, so it's not at all surprising to hear that Dick McGinn thinks that LU and CPQ are going to "shine in '99."

I sold my LU on Friday with a very nice gain, main reason being that I read on SI's LU earnings page that earnings were going to be reported on Monday the 18th. WRONG!!!!!!!!!! Earnings are being on the 21st after the bell. I figured the stock would sell off a bit once they reported their BLOWOUT EARNINGS because they had a nice move up this past week, so then I'd buy it back later on the dip. I am a little more than annoyed that the earnings date posted was incorrect - annoyed at myself for not doing DD!

CPQ and LU! YES!!!!!! What a team!!!!

K

I will assume that is an accurate report by you friend. If so, that makes me even more glad that I am as heavily committed to Compaq as I am.

As I remember, some years ago Peter Lynch said that one of the questions he would always ask a manager at a company that he visited is: 'Which of your competitors do you most admire'. That would frequently tell him of another company that he should invest in.

The CEO of Lucent is an excellent source for an endorsement of Compaq.

In addition, on this thread, someone made a post a little over a year ago stating that Bill Gates said that Compaq was the second best company with a future of computers. I'll give you one guess on which company he put as number one.

That also was an excellent endorsement of Compaq.
