Did you know that a common definition of life is "The period form BIRTH to DEATH"- using this definition an unborn human would not be a life. It is my opinion that abortions should occur only in the first trimester- but I don't really have a good reason for saying that.

The state does not have an obligation to protect and preserve life- I think "To serve and protect" might be the motto of the L.A.P.D.- but it is not the motto of the US government nor should it be. Where do you get these ideas?

The State has a duty to protect rights. The adult woman's right comes first.

>The state has an obligation to protect and preserve life.<

Dissenting opinion here. That's the Church's bailiwick - not the State's. The State has an obligation to continue the State. In this country, its prime directive is tempered by the Constitution, which injects a most artificial (and salutary) concern for the People. The Church criminalizes suicide, but the State does not. (Maybe because the Church feels it is in a position to punish this transgression.)
