IDT Introduces Industry's Fastest and Widest 3.3-Volt Dual-Port SRAM Family; New Synchronous Devices Provide 100-MHz Operation, 36-bit Bus Widths and 1-Mbit Density SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 18, 1999--IDT (Nasdaq:IDTI), the world's leading supplier of multi-ported memory products, today expanded its product portfolio with the addition of four new 3.3-volt synchronous dual-port SRAM devices, including the industry's first 36-bit, 1-Mbit dual-port. The new 100-MHz dual-port memories deliver clock-to-data times of 5 ns which, when combined with the increased density and bus width, make them ideal for performance-driven, data-intensive applications such as LAN/WAN switches and routers, RAID controllers and cellular base stations.
"Designers of emerging communications systems have been looking for high-density 36-bit solutions to meet increased speed and bandwidth demands while still achieving low power," said Carl May, specialty memory product marketing manager for IDT. "With today's announcement of the industry's first 36-bit 100-MHz, 3.3-volt, dual-port, IDT extends its technical leadership position and demonstrates its commitment to providing the leading-edge solutions designers have come to expect."
Dual-Port SRAM Highlights
The new dual-ports feature a synchronous interface, with independent clocks on each port that are able to run at different frequencies. The devices employ separate per-port full-boundary counters which simplify burst operations by eliminating the external logic used to generate addresses on each rising clock edge. The new devices also provide a dual chip-enable feature that simplifies the connection of two dual-port memories for depth expansion without external logic. Separate byte controls allow the dual-ports to provide bus-matching on both ports allowing configurations of x9, x18, x27 or x36 widths.
Chris Schott, vice president of IDT's specialty memory products division added, "We've received fully functional silicon from the fab and are extremely pleased with the part's performance. Of particular interest is the device's fast clock-to-data time of 5 ns, which outperforms competitive solutions and benefits our customers by preserving as much of the cycle time as possible."
Pricing and Availability
The new 3.3-volt synchronous dual-port SRAMs, which are now in the process of package qualifications, will begin sampling in February 1999. The products will initially be available in PQFP and TQFP packages, and will soon be available in fine-pitch BGA packages. Price ranges from $39.95 to $49.95 each in 10,000-piece quantities as illustrated in the table below.

Dual-Port Memory Advantages Dual-port memories provide higher bandwidth than all other types of memory solutions, including multiplexed SRAM. The memories double bandwidth by allowing simultaneous access to a common memory array through two ports. In multi-processor applications, the result from one processor is loaded into memory, while an earlier result is accessed by another processor. This ability to accommodate two independent random operations makes the chips useful as buffers in networking applications where an incoming stream of data is stored, while at the same time a previously stored block of data is processed.
