How will the analysts respond? I doubt they will do anything at all. Analysts don't like to admit they are or were wrong. If they are wrong, they just focus more attention on areas where they have been right. Thus I would expect Kurlak to focus his pronouncements on other stocks, and say very little at all on MU. Dan has been right on the stock price for MU, so he isn't likely to rock the boat, but he may well stop issuing his strong buy re-iterations.

The punishment for misleading analysts is more likely to be long term. If this were a small company, they might drop coverage. But MU is big enough that they can't. They could pass MU on to a junior analyst, I suppose. You might also look for downgrades based on the stock hitting price targets where in the past the analyst might have just raised the price targets. It is also likely that the questions in the next conference call will be more direct, and that the atmosphere will not be friendly. I look forward to listening in to the recording.

If there is a huge flap over this, which there won't be, the analysts might be forced to say something. But more likely this will slide into the past, unnoticed by most people, but not forgotten or forgiven by analysts.
