John this 96 Year young Inuit woman was saying the same thing I have read in Mother Earth News and heard from my brother. all said "The less we depend on technology, the less it can harm us if it fails."
My brother lives in a Adobe "Church" in New Mexico with no phone, his power comes from two of 12V batteries and a small PV charger.
Heat & cooking is from a wood burner, cooling - just opens a window. Most light from an oil lamp. Fridge is propane/12V(would also be 110 if he had it). He calls me around every two months - collect.

Brazil Crisis Bad for US Automakers

newsday.com

But many financial companies like Citigroup may not fare as badly because they have trimmed back their exposure in Brazil following earlier upheavals in Asia and Russia.

For U.S. companies that have Brazilian operations which export -- such as the appliance maker Whirlpool -- the crisis creates conflicting factors that make their outlook uncertain. -- cont'd -- >>
