Paul V,

On Nov. 27, 1998 I said: ---

"Before, based on the performance of AMAT in the previous years up to 1997, I thought AMAT is going to hit 63 (the staging point where the stock is to run-up to 100) in May 1999... But now that I realized the stock is more popular than ever (it's well ahead in price now compared to 1996), I would say AMAT will hit 63 on or before the earnings release in Feb ... That means the stock could hit well above 108 --- the Hi attained last year!...

Now with still a month to spare till Earnings time, we are getting closer to 63...

I can only agree with you that we will go higher this week: --- When Investor's Sentiment is Up, Bad News such as that of Brazil's are Ignored and Shelved for the time being until Sentiments reverses down; The Market watches closely the Improving Fortunes of the Late Participants such as AMAT and its group for future direction of the Market; Clinton the Investors' favorite (he is Popular because most people are Investors who are doing well during his tenure as president) will give the State of the Union Address and also his Defense Team will have their week...

The Landing or Resting period for AMAT and the Market (now it's clear to me after reading your Post and that of Big Bucks) will start after AMAT's Earnings report ... but not necessarily immediately after...

... But the Good thing is: --- Jan and Feb prices are traditionally lower than that of Apr and May. In a Bull Market such as we are now in, prices in the months of Summer/Fall are always higher than that of Apr and May in Spring... If we do not get the Lowest point for the year in Jan, we will certainly get it in Feb (sometimes the lowest occur in Mar). The thing we should not Ignore is the fact that the Market ALWAYS take a much needed Rest that last for a month or two beginning in Jan or Feb... We Bulls should take this opportunity to Load Up during this Landing period...

Now the Question is at What price AMAT is going to hit the Highest HI before that YoYo Drop to as much as -21% ?... Here's a Hint: --- one day during the last Bull market we saw AMAT suddenly turned down after hitting 72 (all the while the rest of the Market leisurely going Up and Up). A day later there was a news about INTC's prospective earnings leveling off. Then one Lady Analyst issued a sell signal for AMAT (her reason was that her target price of 65 was already met. Analysts as we know now, issue Sell signals when stocks are going down not when they're going up). The stock dropped to just above 57 then slowly Clawed its way Up... The Lesson here is let's review those Analysts' target prices... Now I'm not saying 72 is the Magic HI. If the above 20% added premium for the stock (due to its being More Popular then Ever) is going to continue, we are looking for the HI at 87 or 90 as the Top of the Landing or Wide Step!...
