I think it's natural for successful men to think in such competitive terms. We evolved to view competition as the greatest test of ability/worthiness to survive.

From an evolutionary perspective, I would say a trust fund, a few thousand shares of YHOO, or at least a functional brain would be far more important that big hair and a silicon-inflated bustline. Or have we traded striving for actual competitive advantage for striving to achieve an image pulled from the tube.

Big trouble for the species, possibly. Although it may have a certain leveling effect if the most successful males end up mating with marginally animated rubber dolls.

Well, Lather, you are a very nice guy, but you are in your thirties. You don't know what it is like to be a guy who is over, say 50. My husband is only 40, so I don't really know, myself, but I understand that the plumbing starts to get a little rusty, and that younger women seem to have a stronger effect, if you know what I mean. So, the trophy wife is first, more effective on the husband, and second, a way of showing other men that his plumbing is still working fine, thank you.
