Absolutely , yes, if one is willing to wait. The way these stocks have been acting smells of the bottom. Bad news is thrown at them, and they do nothing or frequently go up. IMHO, the bulk, if not all, of the bad news is in them already.
Ran the numbers for peak price vs. BV of SLB, and, since '87, it was at peak, on average, 4.41 X BV. Thus, for '99:
4.41 X 15.5 = 68.35
I'm not saying that I feel it will be a rocket ship ride up, nor do I buy the total gloom and doom scenario.
BTW, Schlumberger also receives A++ for financial strength from VL. That is its highest rating.
