Shaw was also quite terrified of females, or perhaps only of the prospect of becoming a trophy on a female wall. He seemed to think that most of the women he met were out to reduce him to this state, and he was probably right. One of the plays pretty well sums up his feelings on the subject, and, I suspect, his experience as well: the title evades me at the moment, it's the one with the long "Don Juan in Hell" interlude.
