Don, "I would expect bids from Bell Atlantic or AT&T etc. in the not distant future."

This is interesting. Would you elaborate?

Most analyst and many posters on the Nextel boards would not expect bids from these companies, if bids come at all, or if bids are made public.

Bell Atlantic and AT&T have already established a network, built on technology which is not currently compatible (at a practical level) with Nextel's iDEN. AT&T has shown that it's capable of filling in its network through roaming agreements and buyouts (Vanguard being the latest).

Bell Atlantic is also currently going through the GTE aquisition, which complicates its posture going into a bid (it had a heavy influence in the ATI bid).

There is a list of domestic and international companies that may bid for Nextel, many discussed in the press in the last few weeks. Why did you pick Bell Atlantic and AT&T?

Thanks,
Rob
