Your lack of knowledge of probability theory leaves you adrift in ignorance. A fertilized egg has a less than certain chance of becoming independent life. It is a parasite that the mother may cast out or have cast out. Pregnancy is a process during which two separate cells, combine and divide, and grow increasing their chance of survival as they go. Only an independent human life, capable of supporting itself, is truly human. The Greeks and Romans (and Canaanites) knew that the young child in time of need should be sacrificed for the good of the race. The Jews struggled a thousand years to keep their people from sacrificing to Moloch, not for religious tastes, but for family economic survival. The priests, who were fed by the people, never understood the necessity of pruning the family tree. Within my lifetime, Chinese couples have sold their unfeedable children into slavery, and Japanese parents have sold their daughters into prostitution. In Thailand, mothers sell their girls as whores, today a certain death from AIDS, but these parents love their kids as much as anyone loves theirs. Life sucks. And there's too much of it. No great loss if an unwanted child never gets born. Lets help the loved ones. If you think a new born baby is a real human person, toss her on the garbage heap and see if she survives.
As for star travel, I'm working on it. It will not be the work of a single lifetime. My son is dedicated to the task. His daughter is learning astrophysics. Laugh if you will. There will always be those who seek the stars.

Bob:

You create your own definitions and then try to make everyone else follow them. You'd make a good dictator, or a little tin god.

As for FTL travel, who says you have to travel within this time-space continuum anyway? You see, you are locked into a 2,000/6,000 year old primitive ideology so you don't have much imagination left.

Parrots can squawk loud though...
