I wonder where we are going to be with ethnic and local holidays that are not shared world wide once the NYSE goes to round the clock trading. I think the purpose is to compete globally and other countries don't care about many of our holidays. New Years, Christmas and Easter are probably the only ones we take that are also observed outside the U.S.

It seems to me that markets, postal service, banks and other services essential to world commerce should remain open with very few exceptions.

Of course, I am opposed to closing up everything for MLK( I am personally open) as I would oppose closing for St. Patrick's Day , Columbus Day, Cinco de Mayo or any other ethnic, factional celebration. I mean, a whole lot of folks manage to celebrate a whole lot of occasions w/o demanding that the world shut down for their respective parades.

One thing favoritism does, be it an ethnic holiday forced on everyone( even if you don't take it, it causes some inconvenience) or a special quota system designed to make rocket scientists out of those who would not otherwise qualify( and exclude some who are qualified),is to create more divisiveness and resentment.

I don't know where it is going but I do think that the computer, mass communication and the international labor pool will eventually reduce all but the most talented and essential to a minimum wage status.

Guys like Jimmy Chin can compete with anyone. I guess that is one reason why we invest with him.
