RSA Enters into New Technology Agreement with Compaq
New, Broader Licensing Accord Spans All Compaq Products -
Adds More RSA Technology Components
SAN JOSE, Calif., RSA Data Security Conference, Jan. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- RSA Data Security, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Security Dynamics Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: SDTI), today strengthened its relationship with Compaq Computer Corporation through a far-reaching licensing agreement that gives Compaq greater access to RSA security technology. The agreement strengthens the ties between the two companies by broadening Compaq's original license with RSA to cover more Compaq products and by including new licenses for access to additional RSA technology.
In addition to expanding its current license for RSA's BSAFE(TM) Crypto-C cryptography engine, Compaq inked new licenses with RSA for its BSAFE(TM) Crypto-J Java crypto engine and BSAFE(TM) Cert-C digital certificate toolkits. Today's agreement is designed to provide Compaq with a single source for core security technology, thus ensuring secure interoperability across all its product platforms, ranging from PCs to business-critical servers.
"Security is the one of the cornerstones of electronic commerce, and the essential enabling technologies at the core of this security must all work together to ensure security interoperability among all our products," said Bill Ferguson, director of marketing at Compaq's Atalla Security Products. "By selecting RSA as a prime security technology partner, Compaq assures itself of a reliable source of proven software that will benefit a broad range of its customers."
"This alliance between the world's leading makers of personal computers and encryption underscores the fact that security is a fundamental need of PC users," said Scott Schnell, senior vice president of marketing for RSA and Security Dynamics. "RSA's core public-key technologies as well as our higher-level protocol tools and server products are designed to help Compaq deliver secure solutions as the company pursues opportunities in the banking, financial services, electronic commerce, Webcasting and enterprise security markets."
BSAFE(TM) Crypto-C cryptography engine is the world's most popular and trusted cryptography component and development environment. Faster, and with the widest range of data encryption and signing algorithms available today, RSA's security tools are designed to allow developers to integrate state-of-the-art privacy and authentication features into virtually any application.
BSAFE(TM) Crypto-J Java cryptography engine, RSA's first cryptographic software designed specifically for Java developers, is designed to provide a state-of-the-art implementation of the most important privacy, authentication, and data integrity routines -- all in Java and compatible with JavaSoft's and Sun's JDK 1.1 and higher.
BSAFE(TM) CERT-C digital certificate toolkit (formerly BCERT) is designed for developers who want to integrate their applications with a PKI, and makes it easy to add full-functioned ITU-T X.509 v3 digital certificate issuing and handling to RSA-secured applications. BSAFE Cert-C software contains all the cryptographic support necessary to generate certificate requests, sign certificates, parse and handle certificates, and create and distribute certificate revocation lists (CRLs). It interfaces with existing commercial certification services, such as those available from VeriSign, GTE and others.
