OT *** btw, if you just open it up in your browser as opposed to saving it on your disk...can it still get you..I suppose so..

The thing is this kind of program won't run on your system unless you let it. It'll pop up a dialog box asking if you trust applets from "ABC Inc." If you say yes, you'll give it full privileges to do whatever to your system.. If you say no, then it can't do any harm.

Well it is a java app and as such I dont think you have a choice here.
