Thanks for that great Forbes article. It's an insidious thing - you make a few extra dollars on each trade. For the individual, especially one who uses limit orders exclusively, it doesn't seem to matter very much as long as you get your price. But the market makers reap huge benefits on the spread because of sheer volume of trades.

Is it my imagination or was (is?) the SEC investigating NASD for such shenanigans? Was there an outcome?
