January 18, 1999 08:00 AM
WAYNE, Pa., Jan. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- The Providence Journal, an A.H. Belo company, and Infonautics, Inc. INFO today announced the launch of The Providence Journal Archives on the newspaper's award-winning projo.com website (http://archives.projo.com).
The comprehensive archive provides paid access to more than 1 million news and feature stories dating back to 1983. Archive users can conduct either natural-language or Boolean searches and can run advanced searches by newspaper section, author or date range. Multiple pricing plans are available, including pay-per-article, multi-article passes, an annual subscription, and special rates for libraries, schools, non-profit organization and corporations.

"With the Providence Journal Archives, Infonautics has helped us to offer our customers a product robust enough for the professional researcher, yet with an ease-of-use that the average consumer will appreciate," said John Granatino, director of electronic publishing at the Providence Journal.

"The Providence Journal recognized the revenue potential, brand development and customer value of a premium online archive," said William Burger, Vice President of Content and Media Services for Infonautics. "Infonautics delivers all the necessary components that enable publishers to launch and operate successful archives on the Internet."
