AUSTIN, TEXAS (Jan. 21) BUSINESS WIRE -Jan. 21, 1999--Pervasive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ:PVSW), a leading provider of information
management software for easy development and deployment of client/server and Web-based applications, today reported that revenues for the second quarter ended December 31, 1998, increased 66% to a record $14.1 million, compared to $8.5 million for the same period last year. Income for the quarter, excluding one-time charges related to the acquisition of EveryWare Development, Inc., increased 93% to a record $1.1 million or $0.07 diluted earnings per share, compared to $575 thousand or $0.04 diluted earnings per share for the same period last year.

Income for the six months ended December 31, 1998, excluding the one-time charges, increased 131% to $2.1 million or $0.13 diluted earnings per share, compared to $905 thousand or $0.06 diluted earnings per share for the same period last year.

"We are very pleased with the results achieved in the second quarter of fiscal 1999," said Ron Harris, Pervasive president and CEO. "Pervasive's revenues and profitability continued to grow significantly, reflecting worldwide demand for packaged client/server and Web-based applications that require easy-to-use information management and Web development software.
Continued strong acceptance of our Pervasive.SQL(tm) database, which we released last February, revenue increases in Japan following our recent sales, marketing and support investments in the region, and the acquisition of EveryWare in November all contributed to the increased revenue growth rate this quarter."

Pervasive's acquisition of EveryWare Development, Inc., was completed on November 12, 1998. The transaction was recorded using the purchase
accounting method and resulted in a one-time charge of $1.8 million, or $0.12 per share in the second fiscal quarter, representing the value of acquired in-process research and development.

With the EveryWare acquisition, Pervasive adds Tango Enterprise(tm), a Web development tool and application server, to its Pervasive.SQL database and portfolio of data-management products. Tango Enterprise provides powerful Web development capabilities for Webmasters, professional developers, and nonprofessionals alike. "This combination of easy-to-use development environment, zero-administration database, robust application server and reporting functionality radically simplifies the development and deployment of scalable, high-performance Web-based business solutions," Harris said. "This
comprehensive product suite, combined with our well-established worldwide sales channels, furthers our vision of becoming the leading provider of software for the easy creation and deployment of high-performance, client/server and Web-based applications across a broad array of platforms."

In December, Pervasive announced that theglobe.com (NASDAQ:TGLO),
one of the world's leading online communities, deployed its site on the Tango Enterprise Web-application environment. Also in December, Pervasive previewed the dynamic Web development tandem of Tango Enterprise and Macromedia's (NASDAQ:MACR) Dreamweaver(tm)2 at the Builder.com
Live Technology Showcase. And in January, Pervasive announced NASA's
use of Tango Enterprise to develop and deploy an online documentation
application used by 3500 staffers in 22 organizations within NASA.
