Cheeky:

My company has talked with many of the public utilities that supply our stores. One of the largest, CMS, in Michigan said that the "doomsayers" have really blown this thing into some kind of fairytale.

When we asked them how long the power could go out, they said 3 days max, if at all. In January only 60% of their power is used and several of their plants can be run manually and will be at that time. Also, their "peaker" units will all be fired up and running manually before midnight 12/31/99 just in case they are needed to supply power to the grid.
