Meanwhile, Microprocessor Report speculated that Intel's upcoming Willamette core will have a pipeline that is "long enough to carry Alaskan oil." This has been confirmed by a coworker of mine.

That bodes well for Intel. The marketplace has clearly indicated that all they care about is MHz, and a deep pipeline is the only way to get there.

I know you can't give out actual dates, but what is the estimated release of Wilamette? One roadmap I saw said 2H '00. If it comes out then, AMD should have the K7-2 out. ;)
