Hunter,
If I remember correctly Arakis had huge reserves and hit a number of large wells on the Helig and Unity fields in the Sudan. The problem was the pipeline, which I believe they needed a billion dollars to construct. They had the oil....but no way to get it to market. The speculation was not over the oil, but that they had found a partner to finance the pipeline. I hope this helps

Hunter,there is great risk in these countries, but yes oil companies have operated there successfully. Talisman and gulf oil of canada are prime examples. columbia is another example of oil companies successfully doing business. the problem with tcxxf is that they have yet to bring any oil out on their own. it is true that they have a 4% interest in the indonesian well and are getting cash on a monthly basis, but we need more than a trickle to kick start this stock. talisman will be producing from the sudan as soon as the pipeline is finished. sometime this year.
