David, A DSL hookup will do this, with better performance and probably less $ than ISDN. But a cable modem will do better still. See what your regional bell and cable companies are offering.

Not exactly, neither of these send voice in the commonly available hardware. You basically are paying for two services. 1 for data and 1 for voice. ISDN does this with 1 bill although can be expensive but ISDN is more available than cable or ADSL.

and actually you can do this with DSVD modems but only point to point and both parties must have DSVD.

Bottomline: two phone lines are cheaper than 1 phone + ADSL or phone + cable. ISDN is cheaper than 2 phone lines if you're a business user but not a home user.
