I sure hope condom talk hasn't made it to the 5th grade. Seriously, I thought I was responding at the level of your remark. it was a stretch to say that I was comparing The Thing to Intel or Mr Softee-- you deserved what you got, so be happy. You probably wanted it. Lord knows, you invited it.

General Commentary

Earnings, the President, Brazil and volatility are the forces Briefing.com expects to dominate the market in this holiday shortened
week... Earnings season is in high gear as dozens of tech companies are scheduled to report results including: Computer
Associates (CA-T), Compuware (CPWR-T), KLA-Tencor (KLAC-T), Microsoft (MSFT-T), Qualcomm
(QCOM-T), AtHome (ATHM-W), DoubleClick (DCLK-W), Quantum (QNTM-W), Texas Instruments (TXN-W),
BMC Software (BMCS-Th), Excite (XCIT-Th), Gateway (GTW-Th), IBM (IBM-Th), Lucent (LU-Th), Sun
Microsystems (SUNW-Th), Xircom (XIRC-Th), Xylan (XYLN-Th) and Scientific-Atlanta (SFA-F)... For a
complete list of the companies reporting earnings this week/month, and for their respective consensus estimate, actual, year-ago and
revenue numbers, see Briefing's Earnings Calendar... Most of the companies on this list are expected to at least meet street
estimates, so the bias should be favorable... But as we saw last week, good earnings news does not always lead to higher prices -
especially when the news is already built in... Yahoo's! (YHOO) surprising sell-off after a better than expected earnings number
is a prime example.

Impeachment trial hasn't received much play on the street... But the longer the trial the less likely is it that the President will be
acquitted... Concerns over conviction likely to mount... State of the Union address also to focus attention on the President, though
few expect him to have the stature at this juncture of his Presidency to successfully advance an agenda.

Brazil's amazing rally on news its Government decided to free float the real will prove short-lived... Country faces a boat load of
problems and a weak currency isn't going help... We doubt very much that the adverse impact of Brazil's devaluation on the
markets is over - despite Friday's options related snap back rally.

With so much on the market's plate the one certainty is that volatility will remain high... Especially given current valuations and the
deteriorating relative strength of the high-flying Internet group... In the end, we look for the bias to remain to the downside... As
such, we have chosen to dispense with the normal industry briefs... In their place we have identified stocks from each industry that
are trading at abnormally wide (and inevitably unsustainable) distances from their 200-day moving averages... Briefing.com
contends that these stocks are vulnerable to near-term corrections of at least 10%-20%... We hope you find this trading information
useful.

Teradyne (TER) and 3Com (COMS) are holding analyst meetings early this week... For details, see our Events
Calendar.
