FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., Jan. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Kingston(R) Technology Company, the world's largest independent memory module and manufacturing services provider, today announced that it has become the first memory module supplier with the ability to test up to sixteen individual PC66, PC100, or future PC133 and DDR SDRAM memory modules simultaneously on the Advantest 5581H platform. The new test system can be customized to accommodate varying test requirements of OEM customers, which include major semiconductor and system manufacturers. This advanced capability, which further enhances the company's ability to support build-to-order services for premium OEM memory products, is enabled by the installation of two Advantest Model 5581H testers at Kingston's manufacturing facilities in the United States and Taiwan. "Each of our OEM customers is unique. In addition to customizing the memory module manufacturing processes for them, we strive to offer a wide selection of test options to suit their specific requirements," said Al Soni, vice president and general manager, Services Division, Kingston. "Kingston's OEM customers can now specify test processes using advanced, multi-million dollar testers such as the Hewlett-Packard HP83000, the Advantest 5581H, or Kingston's proprietary high-volume, low-cost S100 testers," said Soni. "Kingston worked closely with Advantest to successfully connect two Yuil Semicon handlers to the Advantest 5581H mainframe," explained John Cheng, vice president of global test engineering, Kingston. "Kingston is the first Advantest customer to deploy a dual-handler Advantest 5581H platform, thereby doubling our yields and further reducing individual module test costs," continued Cheng. Following the successful implementation of the dual-handler interface, Kingston's global test engineering group is refining test software to optimize test coverage while minimizing test time. "Designing and developing memory module test software is sometimes more of an art than a science," added Cheng. "Kingston has developed its own proprietary test hardware over the last eight years, and our accumulated test software engineering expertise allows us to custom develop test programs for our OEM customers. Some of our customers also provide us with their internal Advantest or Hewlett-Packard tester software and we partner to jointly enhance our testing effectiveness." Kingston's America's Manufacturing Center in Fountain Valley, California, U.S.A. and Asia-Pacific Manufacturing Center in Hsinchu, Taiwan have deployed the dual-handler Advantest 5581H systems and are already testing OEM modules. Kingston has also deployed four Hewlett-Packard HP83000 reference testers worldwide, including a Hewlett-Packard HP83000 F1300 tester used to test Direct Rambus RIMM modules at 600- and 800-MHz. With plans to install an additional dual-handler Advantest 5581H within a special thermal chamber at the America's Manufacturing Center by the second quarter of this year, Kingston will be able to test modules under stressful conditions. An additional dual-handler Advantest 5581H will be set up at the European Manufacturing Center in Dublin, Ireland next month. "In addition to deploying the most advanced testing infrastructure for Synchronous DRAM technology, our plans are even more ambitious for the forthcoming Direct Rambus technology," Soni furthered. "We are working on a Direct Rambus test strategy to ensure that Kingston will build, test, and ship the best premium Rambus RIMM modules available."
