Lifeway has added some info to their website. They have listed some of the supermarket chains that carry their products. Also something I didn't know. No growth hormones are used on the cows that produce the milk they use.

From the site:

What is rBGH?

rBGH - recombinant bovine growth hormone (also known as bovine somatotropin) - is a controversial hormone. Although it occurs naturally, the controversy is over the practice of injecting additional amounts of a genetically-engineered version of the hormone into cows to increase their milk output.

While it does increase milk output, many feel that rBGH increases stress on cows, leading to increased incidence of disease (such as mastitis), which is often treated with antibiotics or other drugs, and which may find their way into the milk.

In most states (Vermont being the exception) dairy products processors are not required to tell consumers whether their milk comes from rBGH-treated cows.

Lifeway has secured sources for the milk that goes into its kefir and other products that never use rBGH.

We just thought you'd like to know.
