Because playing with options on Amazon has become nearly impossible. The market maker practically refuses to accept limit orders (if you do, they simply wont execute, even if the price stays at your limit for half an hour).

The only way to get an execution is to enter a market order, upon which the market maker will instantly fill your order at least a full point outside the current bid/ask, always to your detriment. There are plenty of reports of people entering buys for contracts trading at 5/8ths and getting their orders filled at 3, or worse.

Glenn posted the information earlier that the market maker for AMZN options was granted a special waiver by the american exchange that allows him to disregard the normal rules regarding timeliness of execution and bid/ask spreads. Why the waiver was issued, I have no idea.
