The DRAM chips are measured in bits, so 128Mb = 16M bytes (144Mb is also 16M bytes with an extra parity bit). System RAM is measured in bytes, so 128M bytes = 8 chips. Usually, the distinction is noted as 'Mb' versus 'MB', but not always.

To put 128Mbytes in one box using 128mbit technology, you would need one 64Mx16 Rim module.
One 64Mx16 Rim module = 8Mx16 per chip x 8 chips =128M bytes
so 500k chips / 8 = 62.5k boxes
