They have committed to NT, true. SGI, however, is, and will be, perceived as a UNIX developer for years. Their products will continue to focus on UNIX.
It is the range of development that is interesting here. Oftentimes, the merely apparent masks greater opportunities that lie beneath the surface. I think there is more at work at SGI than the simple layout you have provided.
Similarly, I perceive AAPL as having several areas of development that, as yet, remain "rumor" but will provide huge dividends.
I think the 2 companies may find their futures are closer than they think as a result.
This is relatively vague, I understand. But I don't think AAPL can continue down the road on their own for much longer. They need something....more than they have...to continue.
