A free radical, perhaps. The North wanted the South to end slavery because of the economic competition. When they built the railroads, they brought in the Chinese. Obviously, the South took the low road, denying freedom, education, and other rights to African slaves which were bought from the European and African slavetraders. Pretty much everyone was into slavery for their own economic benefit.
