Regarding ATHM/XCIT, just saw this on the Yahoo ATHM thread,
it is apparently an e-mail sent by ATHM to all subscribers.
It implies that wireless, and other non-cable "broadband"
systems will be used in the future.

Here is the url -

messages.yahoo.com@m2.yahoo.com

it says, in part:

"Our vision for the future is to create a highly personalized experience that you can access from any device (personal computers, interactive televisions, pagers, cell phones), from any method of access (from your current high-speed Internet connection over cable to a future wireless link while you're traveling), at any time of the day or night."

Let's see... instead of going after ATHM's 350,000 eyeballs, or paying 6 billion for another search engine, Case decided to go after Netscape's 10M eyeballs, ICQ's 25 million eyeballs, and sign deals with Bell Atlantic for DSL. In the meantime, he will wait for another year or so, when there is enough cable penetration to matter, before making a deal for cable. Yeah, if Case keeps goofing up BIG like this, AOL might just take over the entire internet world.

<"What makes you think that AOL did not take ATHM seriously or that it did not
have vision? Kind of hard to become a cable-based ISP when the cable companies
won't let you in.">

Wasn't aware that was(is) the case. AOL will need to go to cable! For QUALITY vision, sound, but most importantly SPEED! Do you think AOL's alliance with BEL had knowledge of ATHM's future merger of XCIT? Or was this ATHM's way of saying "we'll go beyond AOL and develop our own portal and ISP in one shop?"

AOL, unless I'm totally in the dark and please correct me if I'm wrong, had the opportunity to form an allegiance with ATHM! And they decided not to!

Very Respectfully,

Kevin
