bp, regarding the IBM/DB2 news, all I can say is its about time, as far as I know DB2 still beats Oracle on large systems, Im surprised they didnt link up before. But Im more interested in seeing the new engine technologies integrated into Sap - I think Sap needs to partner with an engine player to update their apps and obviously Oracle is out so that leaves IBM. The PR doesnt say anything about this I realize so its just speculation.

On the kernel front the future is somewhat murky because oracle has a new product (8i - java in database) which creates a new sort of apps development where the java component enables e-commerce and distribution of the apps over the web. IBM has a project called San Francisco that apparently is a Java ERP system - Im not sure if it uses a similar architecture to 8i, but at any rate the fact that both Oracle and IBM are coming up with Java solutions independently kind of points you to the future. (I think psft is doing java at momentum too but not sure)

Normally I would discount these new initiatives as too far out to impact any stock I own but since there is such a damper on everyone until after y2k, its possible some of these new products could change the competitive landscape just when you expect the stocks to go up.

RIght now Oracle seems like they are ahead in next generation technology but I suspect IBM+Sap will change that pretty dramatically.

Regarding EXDS, I dont know them, are they a buy and hold candidate would you say?
