Teradyne Releases Fourth Quarter Results

BOSTON, Jan. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Teradyne, Inc. (NYSE: TER) reported sales
of $316.1 million and net income of $11.8 million for the Fourth Quarter of
1998, compared with $391.7 million and $46.2 million in the year-earlier
quarter. Orders for the Fourth Quarter of 1998 totaled $371 million.

Holy Mackerel, those MSFT results are astounding! As for Teradyne, the really BIG story is the bookings: they are up 51 per cent from the previous quarter (371 million vs 245 million). Since back end companies are reputed to be leading indicators for this industry, this bodes well for the future. I wonder how the "flat is a disaster" crowd likes them apples? <g>

TI Reports Fourth-Quarter and Year-End 1998 ....

DSP Grows 29% in 1998 .... TI Expects Sequential Revenue Growth in 1Q99 ... TI's capital expenditures for 1999 are forecast to be level with 1998 at $1.0 billion. R&D is expected to be $1.1 billion, versus $1.2 billion in 1998. Depreciation for 1999 is expected to be$1.0 billion.

"TI is well-positioned to capitalize on changing market conditions and to make the investments necessary for growth and ongoing innovation," said Engibous.

"We have already made investments in brick and mortar and can add equipment quickly when market demands dictate."
