<< Nice improvement on TDFX/STBI today. A little pre-earnings anticipation perhaps. >>

What catches my interest is that STBI is almost trading at the proposed 0.65 buyout ratio (0.635 as of close today). This is quite a jump (IMO) from the typical 0.56 that it's been floundering around since the announcement. STBI's volume is up significantly, too.

I've been wondering what's driving all this. One thought I've had is that TDFX has become attractive (for whatever reason), but that STBI has become even more so since it has been trading at a discount relative to its "intrinsic TDFX value." As a result, the demand for STBI stock has driven its price up so that there's now only a slight gap to the buyout ratio representing the uncertainty that the deal will complete.

This is all pretty much a WAG on my part. Anyone care to comment?

The best I can say about today's action is that it was better than a drop. If we had closed above 14, then I'd say we are in a trading range to an up trend. When we clear 17.5~18.5 then I'd say the up trend has resumed.

To answer your other comment, you can't sum up all the little pebbles thrown at you and hit back the offender with a baseball size rock on the head. That would not be justice. Let me put it this way: when I was in grade eight there was a kid that was a real nuisance. He always made wise cracks that was not even quality wise crack, and tended to hang around when you wish he'd just go away. And if he ever found an embarrassing story about you, it would be all over the school before you knew it. As much as I craved to beat him up enough to put him out of school for the next few months, I just couldn't justify that punishment for being gadfly. What I came to realize was that he felt isolated. Everyone treated him like a low life, and that limited his choices. Doing what he did, was his way of surviving (emotionally) in the school. Likewise, being a social pest, should not be punishable by a life in prison. Keeping your house clean stops roaches a lot better than a ton of pesticide (and is healthier for *all* involved).

Cheers,
