product roll out -

ok, let's think about this. msn is moving up. msft has tons of strong Internet businesses (sidewalk, hotmail, expedia). what if msft partners with att? att/ tci has athm, which has been moving up strongly, and which just bought xcit. now, add msft to the mix, and bill gets his goal of getting into YOUR living room at huge bandwidth. i think we are going to see that, and msft will be in the hunt again competing with aol/nscp.

Does this mean the rest of the year is all downhill for Microsoft?

Where do we go from here, as the Y2K spending boost dries up later this year?

The comments MSFT made about Y2K spending are very important. Basically, there is a temporary one-time boost to spending, as IT folks replace outdated systems with NT-based LAN systems. So this quarter was boosted by that, AND the normal seasonal boost. Earlier, it was thought this boost would be seen in 1st and 2nd quarter of calendar 1999 and the second half of 1999 would be a downer. Now, the whole thing appears pushed earlier by a quarter. This means we could be very close to a real slowdown.

(from the news)
Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq:MSFT - news) did, however, cite concerns that a spike in spending by businesses and organizations over the year 2000 computer problem could result in reduced spending in 1999.
