DG's Network World Ranks Power Players in Annual Power Issue

The most power people in the industry were chosen based on telephone interviews with 250 Network World readers chosen at random. The big winners were Bill Gates, who held his number one position from last year, Sprint's Bill Esrey, who climbed six positions, Cisco's John Cambers, who took control of the number two slot inching up three slots, and IBM's Lou Gerstner jumped three positions to rank in at number four. The big losers were Netscape's Jim Barksdale, who dropped 10 positions, Sun's Scott McNealy who dropped three places, and Oracle's Larry Ellison and Computer Associates' Charles Wand, both of who dropped two positions each.
