I just got a message from him wanting to go to a CAke concert. What's Cake? Should we let him?

Cake is a band -- I have one of their CD's and I'm shocked to say it is completely devoid of references to illegal and/or nauseating sexual practices, snorting cocaine off naked groupie hips, killing law enforcement officers, the joys of slackerdom, and other similar paeans to a licentious and useless lifestyle that musicians these days are usually heir to.

In fact, I would say they are rather cerebral. In short, boring. Only people with stratospheric IQ's tend to like them, which is why I have not played the CD in about a year and a half.

A pretty safe bet.

> Thing is when you start getting into the stratospheric brains, you can start
seeing some pretty odd characteristics. They're often socially incompetent or suffer from neuroses and
compulsions; there's no guarantee that all that IQ translates into common sense or the ability to communicate
with ordinary people. <

I've encountered maybe three serious geniuses - and the thing that struck me about two of them is how NORMAL they were. Dressed ok, had unremarkable social manners, basically nice people. But hoooo doggies bright.
One of them got by on three hours of sleep a day. Mutant. You can't be jealous of such people - only proud to be in the same species.

some more CAKE

When I go fishing for the words
I am wishing you would say to me
I'm really only praying that
The words you'll soon be saying
Might betray, the way you feel about me

<It took me years to get rid of the question mark on the ends of my statements.>

Reminds me of a show I saw on Classic Sports not too long ago called Legend to Legend. Ted Williams and Tony Gwynn talking about hitting. Which is kind of like Einstein and Oppenheimer talking about nuclear physics. Anyway, Ted Williams would ask Gwynn a question like "what's the hardest pitch to pull?" and Gwynn, who of course knows the answer and if one of us had asked the question would say, "Fastball low and away, you idiot." says to Williams "Fastball low and away?" It was as if Gwynn was the intimidated college student wanting to avoid being made to look stupid by the master Williams. Good stuff.
