Unisys Wins $75 Million Contract For Network and Desktop Services from City of Chicago
Services include full spectrum of network and desktop operational support
BLUE BELL, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 20, 1999-- Unisys Corporation Wednesday announced that it has signed a strategic outsourcing contract with the City of Chicago to provide a full spectrum of network and desktop management.

Under terms of the agreement, Unisys will support the city's information technology environment with desktop configuration and staging, asset management, maintenance, remote network management, end-user help desk, and training services. The contract has an estimated value of $75 million over its five-year duration.

Leveraging its expertise in network integration, support, and outsourcing, Unisys is providing this comprehensive suite of lifecycle management services to complement the in-house information systems function for the city and 42 affiliated departments including police, aviation, and emergency communications.

''This relationship will enable the City to focus on the work required for strategic initiatives, such as managing citizen requests, automating the inspections process and streamlining our business tax and licensing function,'' said Beth Boatman, chief information officer for the City of Chicago. ''Additionally, it will enable us to accurately set service delivery expectations while reducing the turnaround time from order to delivery of desktop and network solutions for our internal customers.

''After a ten-month competitive process,'' Boatman continued, ''Unisys was selected based on the quality of their methodology and approach for managing the desktop, help desk, and network environment. Their integrated suite of tools and management philosophy mitigate the risks associated with the complexity of this work, especially in this difficult job market.''

Incorporating the full spectrum of Unisys distributed computing support services, the contract with the City of Chicago is one of the most significant desktop and network outsourcing engagements to date for Unisys.

According to Gerry Gagliardi, President, Unisys Global Customer Services, ''This contract represents a significant step by the City of Chicago to provide its thousands of users with new levels of support.

Unisys proven expertise in deploying, managing, and supporting business-critical networks will enable the city to better serve its customers -- the citizens of Chicago.''

Through its Global Customer Services business unit, Unisys provides a complete portfolio of distributed computing support services. These customized service-based solutions maximize the availability, effectiveness, and value of distributed, multi-vendor information technology investments.

Nortel Networks and Unisys Join forces to Deliver Next-Generation Networks to Customers Worldwide
Unisys Becomes a Nortel Networks Global Solutions Partner
SANTA CLARA, CA, Jan. 20 /CNW/ - Capitalizing on the joint strengths of both companies, Nortel Networks (NYSE: NT/TSE: NTL) and Unisys Corporation (NYSE: UIS - news) today announced that Unisys is a charter member of the new Nortel Networks Global Solutions Partner program (see related announcement). As a Global Solutions Partner (GSP), Unisys will deliver consulting, planning, design, integration, and support services for Nortel Networks' Unified Networks solutions.

Unified Networks solutions integrate voice, video and data traffic over a single network infrastructure, providing customers with increased productivity and profitability, end-to-end control and predictability, and a significant reduction in cost, complexity and downtime.

Unisys brings to the GSP program its global reach, integrated service delivery capabilities, and acclaimed network infrastructure and operation services portfolio. Combined with Nortel Networks' technology solutions, Unisys' services will strengthen global delivery of optimized networking lifecycle solutions for Unisys and Nortel Networks customers.

Today's announcement is a natural evolution of a long-standing relationship between Unisys and Nortel Networks. Unisys has been a major reseller of Nortel Networks' data networking products and has supplemented Nortel Networks' delivery of product support services around the world. As a GSP, Unisys now gains access to Nortel Networks' comprehensive line of voice and data networking technologies not available from any other single vendor. Unisys' designation as a GSP ensures customers that Nortel Networks' technology is integrated and supported to achieve optimized network performance, control of the cost of network operations, and ease of transition to a Unified Networks infrastructure.

The GSP program also provides a conduit for Unisys to market new network solutions developed by Nortel Networks, enabling customers to successfully implement and quickly realize the value of new technologies - including Unified Networks. By leveraging each other's sales channels and domain expertise, while sharing the investment in service development, Unisys and Nortel Networks have made the necessary commitment to ensure mutual and long- term success in the marketplace.

''The relationship between Unisys and Nortel Networks has been highly beneficial - driving revenue for both companies,'' said David Drechsel, vice president of Global Alliances, Unisys Global Customer Services. ''Through this expanded relationship, we will co-develop and co-market new repeatable solutions to provide our customers with a managed progression to converged network technologies. The new Unisys and Nortel Networks business model delivers the right message of partnered commitment, capability, and vision to the marketplace.''

''Nortel Networks customers around the world can benefit from Unisys' reputation as a solutions integrator,'' said Dave Shrigley, executive vice president of marketing sales and service, Bay Networks, Nortel Networks. ''The company's expertise will be invaluable in helping customers build the IP optimized Unified Networks solutions that will provide a competitive business edge.''

The Nortel Networks relationship is managed through the Unisys Strategic Service Partnership program. Unisys provides its Strategic Service Partners the opportunity to offer a wide range of services around the world -- without having to build or buy their own expanded service capability. The program offers electronic access to a single worldwide service call tracking, management and logistics information system as well as a marketing support program.
