There are a number of papers out that present this classification. Perhaps the best way to view it is to consider the G10 field subdivided into 10 subclasses, J-1 to 10. Put the J-10 field as the most subcalcic highest chrome (diamond inclusion pyropes), and the balance moving toward the G9 field (but still within the G10 field). This way a marginal G10 can be considered as great (J-10) or okay (J-1).

This is a simplification, but call John Armstrong at DIAND for a better picture.
