>>assuming you didn't win the lottery (i know i didn't), what did you decide for your sis? << No, no winning lottery today, but the ticket is still good... I decided on the Dell Inspiron 3500 which is similar to the Inspiron 7000, except where the 7000 has the ATI vid card, the 3500 has the NeoMagic MagicMedia card. This is a 256 Bit card with 2.5MB of embedded RAM. It's 1X AGP versus the ATI's 2X. If your display is XGA, then the max resolution is 1024 X 768. Less than that with lesser types of displays. The integrated RAM has the advantage of making the card easy on the battery. You can check out the specs on the Neo site:neomagic.com ATI and NeoMagic are the two world beaters for notebook gaphics cards. ATI leads in high-end notebooks, Neo in mid-high notebooks, (in terms of market-share). She thought the 7000 was a little too much for her needs, so I compromised with the 3500. The options I chose are: 14.1" Mobile PII 266, 3.2G, 64MB, 2M Video, 24X. It comes with Win98 and Microsoft Works. ******* $2141 ****** The Dell web-site indicates 2M of video RAM, but it's actually 2.5MB. Dell gives a 3yr parts&labor 72hr turnaround time warranty on refurbs--same as new models. The return policy is 14 days rather than the 30 days on new products. She's still hemming and hawing and hasn't ordered it yet. The time I spend researching this I could be spending on stocks and making money, so the ball's in her court now. They only have one of the above configuration, so if that one gets sold tonight she'll have to wait 'til another one comes in. She likes to push, but doesn't like to be pushed--what can I say. She's my sister... wily
