Aforementioned Weenie-crat would hamstring e-commerce by capping the strength of exportable cryptosystems. For that reason alone, I hope Billy keeps his job a while longer.

Did you know that if you export or transmit machine readable code for encryption better than 52 bits in key length, you can be prosecuted under the exact same statutes that prohibit the export of nuclear weapons technology? I Shit You Not.

I know of a guy who had a mess of T-shirts made that had a strong encryption script in PERL printed in barcode on them. He mailed a carton of them off to a friend living outside of North America, just to demonstrate how ridiculous these laws are. T-shirts = Nukes? I think not.

Unfortunately, it's only the Denver bureau of the SBA, and not the whole damn administration. I implemented it and ran the pilot from our end (HONK HONK). Denver is a great town for micro brew.
