It's possible the unearned revenue could actually be *used* soon; certainly such revenue won't go up the way it has been, the closer we get to Y2K. So you can't go on figuring in such revenue when you compute the P/E.

The point is, the outlook for the next few quarters is down. Then, the last quarter of calendar 1999 is sure to be awful due to Y2K lockdown. And, right after that Y2K actually hits. Normally, we might be able to say the last calendar quarter of the year would be strong but this year we can't. So we are stuck with a high P/E stock with a slow outlook...until AFTER Y2K hits. And who knows what will happen then.

Does everyone expect the Nasdaq to go straight up until the Y2K freeze hits them in the head...then they are all going to sell at the same high price on the same day?!?

I've posted a proprietary review of MSFT's Q3 '98 results and I think that many of the salient points are still valid. The review can be accessed at rcmfinancial.com

For those that are interested in my commentary and analysis, I am starting an investment club through my site, where I will give the club members access to proprietary software, templates and data in order to collaborate on the stock selection process. This is for serious, long term capital investors only - no junk speculation. Of course, MSFT will be a core holding.

For those who are interested, you can register here rcmfinancial.com to be notified of the club's availability to the public (we are still beta testing)and read a little more about it here rcmfinancial.com
