The biggest market in the world is real estate and utilities, if you think about it...they're highly fragmented...it makes sense for Fido to start small and build monsters. If the gov is going to invest SS money into the stock market it's less offensive to have the money go into these sectors than the techs...and the gov gets some additional control over them. The gov, in effect, gets to own all the utilities and real estate. Makes sense, yes? It looks and smells like socialism.
Look for beaten-down things and you'll find some other equities to pour SS money into.....BA, LMT, FAMCK, Fannie Mae, some of the little government contractors...nobody can say boo about the valuations of any of these investments, either.
It paints an interesting picture.
