I was thinking today that splitting MSFT may be good for my long term accounts.

I was speaking with a retired guy I know, who bought a lousy 100 shares of ATT before the split up. All he did since was re-invest the dividends, sell off the NCR spinoff and on top of that he has a ton of Bell Atlantic (He took NYNEX as a spinoff from ATT, then ended up with Bell), he has Lucent and gawd knows what else plus the 100 shares of Telephone.

Now I don't expect MSFT or any of the possible spinoffs to generate dividends or start pitching out spinoffs but still all in all it may just be worth more than the sum of it's parts if one were to take a sledgehammer to it.

Besides, Windows 9x drives me nuts.
