Bobo,

>>So you are telling me on average $10 per 529MB is a problem with todays CD-RW technology?<<

Don't get me wrong - CD-R/RW has its place and makes more sense for certain applications - namely archival - where speed is not an issue.

A blanket statement that CD-R/RW is a direct competition to Zip and Jaz, however isn't completely accurate. They can, and do coexist.

With respect to mass consumer acceptance, the great thing about a Zip drive is its easy-of-use and low initial cost. CD-R/RW, however, requires specialized software for its preparation (CD-RW) and use (CD-R), and thus has a more significant learning curve, in addition to a higher initial cost.

Jaz, while it has a similar initial cost, beats CD-R/RW hands down in the speed and usability department - but then again, Jaz is not exactly a "mass consumer device" - neither is CD-R/RW.
