Intel Investors - Another Pentium III Early Announcement ! Tangent Computers may not be a household name but rack them up with Compaq as companies that have "preannounced" Pentium III computers. Paul {=========================} January 19, 1999 10:16 Tangent Computer Announces Desktop & Server Support for Pentium III; Medallion, MediaGem, ProServ Lines Support Intel's New CPU Jump to first matched term BURLINGAME, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 19, 1999--Tangent Computer today announced it will offer a line of desktop PCs and servers based on Intel's new Pentium III (Katmai) processors with clock speeds running at 450MHz and 500MHz. Tangent desktop PCs that will support the new Intel Pentium III CPU when it ships in Q1 '99 include the Medallion and MediaGem. Tangent Computer's line of Xeon-based servers -- ProServ 900/1200/1500 -- will support Intel's Pentium III Xeon processor brand, which has been designed to seamlessly deliver higher performance for mid-range and higher server and workstation applications. The new Pentium III Xeon processor will ship later this year. Intel's new Pentium III is built around a Pentium II core with enhanced capabilities. The chip comes with 70 new multimedia instructions that will improve graphics, and video performance. Video, as an example, will run smoother because a Tangent computer based on a Pentium III CPU will be able to process more frames per second. Intel's Pentium III Xeon, which will be included in Tangent Computer's ProServ line, will increase to system bus from 100MHz to 133MHz. Because the system bus controls the flow of data between the processor and main memory, performance will be faster with the Pentium III Xeon's speedier system bus. "Our new Pentium III desktop PCs and servers will offer our customers a reliable and cost-effective solution. Tangent Computer's 10-year relationship with state and local government, education and business organizations has taught us to create high-tech products and services that address the specific needs of our target markets. "These customers are attracted to the Tangent Computer brand when they compare the features, performance, life-time technical support, and total cost of ownership," said Tangent Computer's COO Mike Zabaneh.
