A few time-of-day observations, mostly on the overall averages, that have helped me get significantly better prices:

1) If it moves up from the open until about 10 am, then reverses on a dime and moves lower than the open by 10:30, that's often the low of the day. (Gap-up openings like today don't count.)

2) Big buys often come in around 2:45. If it's reversing a steady down-trend at that time, it will probably go all the way to the close.

3) 2:00 is absolutely magic, but I have no idea why. Any strong move into 2:00 will probably reverse on a dime and go just as violently the other way. (This would cancel the 2:45 buy.)

As I said, these are observations rather than rules, for you to verify and use or to refute and ignore as you wish. But I can almost guarantee that we'll see both the 2:45 buy and the 10:30 low at least once more this week.
